What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML file which can be read by " feed reading" or "feed aggregator" software. Usually web-designers will place feeds on pages of the website that change frequently, such as blogs, podcasts and news and events.

Once a feed has been subscribed to the RSS software interface indicates when the content of the feed is updated. This means the viewer does not have to use a web-browser, for example Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari and type in the URL to see if the page of interest has been updated.

The feed reader program will show all your feed subscription and indicate whether there has been a change since the user last viewed it.

How do I get an RSS feed?

Most up to date browsers come with a handful of feed readers and within a couple of clicks you'll be subscribed, its very straightforward.

To know whether you already have a program installed do as follows: Click the following link, this will take you to Downbelow RSS, if you already have a program installed you will be prompted to subscribe, or you will see a link usually in the right hand sidebar or top of the page asking you to subscribe or bookmark, once you've clicked you're subscribed, its as easy as adding a bookmark for a page.

If your browser does not come with a feed reader there are many available programs, just search the web for RSS feeder and you find them.

We do not recommend any feed reading program in particular but here are a few to choose from. Click on one of the links below and follow the prompts of the reader software.

Setting up (or subscribing to) a feed differs from one news reader program to another, but it sometimes involves copying the URL of the feed and pasting it into the reader. The URL of the Downbelow News and Events feed is: feed://www.downbelow.co.uk/pages/news_files/page21.xml
